Your Horse Live - Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th November
Another great day out! Tons of shopping done and lots of celebrities to see. Beautiful horses everywhere! What more does any equestrian fan want? The demonstations were varied and couldn't fail to entertain and inspire us, whatever discipline you prefer! It's a shame that this is just once a year!

Hallowe'en Ride - Sunday 30th October
Well done to Jenny, Olivia and Nicola for all their hard work! It was a brilliant day. The weather was sunny (a minor miracle for a Pole Moor Do) and the yard at Nicola's was full of goblins, ghouls and witches, with the occasional vampire along the way! Two rides went ahead, one being a 'monster hunt' around Bolster Moor and the other a faster paced ride around Pole Moor. The fancy dress was judged by Olivia Turner and Helen Bousfield, they had to step in at the last minute as our judge couldn't come. Thank goodness they did, and they made a great job of it too! Daniel Fielder and Freddie came 1st in the children's fancy dress and Sharon Holmes riding Mr Murdoch got the 1st for the adults competition. Well done to all the prize winners, a lot of hard work had gone into the costumes! The monster hunt was won by Daniel Fielder and Alice Thomas, this eagle eyed pair managed to spot all the hidden monsters and solve the conundrum! Well done!
Nicola had created a Holiday feast for the hungry riders, it was greatly appreciated. There was pumpkin soup, baked potatoes, hot dogs and home made parkin, lots of sweets, not to mention the 'to die for' home made toffee!!! Thank you Nicola!

Merrydale Rendevous - Sunday 25th September
The day started off wet and cold, as you'd expect for one of our events really, but as the day progressed the sun joined us and the food at Pat's was warming and extremely tasty! Some riders set off from Nicola's yard at 11am and met up with Sharon's group of equestrians in Slaithwaite carpark at around 11:45. We rode through Rotcher Woods and up over Cop Hill meeting walkers and cyclists along the route. It was a friendly sort of day! The participants all received a Pennine Ride and Walk Festival T-shirt, fabulous!

Visit to Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre - Saturday 24th September
Thanks to Jane for organising this wonderful trip. The centre was gorgeously clean and the horses were very well cared for, the staff would answer any questions that we threw at them and were obviously passionate about their work. It was an eye opening experience, and it was fabulous to see what 'our charity' does. The centre is run on donations and has an online shop from which you can buy baseball caps, bags, fleeces, stationery, Christmas cards and all sorts of stuff. The website address is www.thetrc.co.uk. The club is hoping to visit again so watch this space for the next trip, it's really worth going for a look around.

Annual Show - Sunday 4th September
What a smasher of a show! Well done Sharon for co-ordinating it all, and thank you to everyone who helped make it a huge success! Thanks to the entry tent staff, Melissa, Chris, Allison, Olivia and Nicola for training them to use the computer system and being on hand to support them during the day. Thanks to the ground crew, runners, stewards, carpark attendants, judges and everyone who worked so very hard behind the scenes to ensure that the show could go on. The photos on the website, taken by 'friend of the club' Helen Bousfield are beautiful and can be purchased as photos or as fridge magnets, they'd make a great stocking filler! Contact Gina or Rachel for details, We had a lovely group of kind and supportive no nonsense judges, and because of them people entered classes that they'd never tried before. It was a fantastic reflection of what Pole Moor Riding Club is all about.

Pre Show BBQ - Saturday 21st August
Well, the weather was not nice but the food was great! Well done Pat (Have you thought about teaming up with Simon to create the BBQ to end all BBQs? Just a thought!). The helpers, judges and stewards were invited to Pat's for a 'thank you' BBQ prior to the show and to find out where they would be needed on the big day. It was lovely to chat to everyone without the show going on around us and in a calm and happy atmosphere. Many helpers found this a very useful event and it would be great if it was an annual one!

Crosscountry - Saturday 21st August
This was a really great opportunity to have a go at crosscountry. Organised by Kim, with support from her friends at Ainley Place and one of Simon Green's fabulous BBQs (watch out Pat, you've got competition!) the day went really well. There was a clear round competition in the ménage and the crosscountry was in the fields. Jumps were small and scary looking for the novice and bigger and scarier looking for the intermediate and open classes. The weather was kind to us so the going was good and not slippy, and people could sit on the grass and watch their friends have a try. Thanks Kim and Ainley Place.

St Trinians Charity Pub Ride - Sunday 14th August
Maz organised this event to support our charities and to have a good laugh. We laughed a lot! The members had put a lot of effort and thought into their outfits and they looked smashing, definitely traffic stopping in some cases! Our horseless helpers raised a few eyebrows too, Sarah walked the ride and collected donations and held onto peoples horses whilst the riders went to the bar or nipped off to use the facilities. We couldn't have managed without the groundcrew so thanks to you too. Thanks to the lovely staff at the Swan Inn who took time out of their busy day to judge the best outfit and allowed us to congregate in their carpark. Well done to Sue Haigh and Toffee for scooping the 1st rosette, you looked fab! The event raised over £100 for our charities, a great start to the fundraising !

Pay and Play Charity Jumping Day - 25th/26th June
This was a cracking event! Due to the extremely poor weather which made the ground too hazardous for jumping, the event was extended to the 26th June and ended up being a blistering hot day. Luckily the breeze was fresh and cooling so made the event pleasant for our horsey pals. Riders of all ages came to have a practice over a course of jumps, paying just 50p a go, and all proceeds going to our charities. Many of them taking turns to go again. Everyone enjoyed themselves and Jenny (our junior committee member who organised the day) got positive feedback from everyone. Well done Jenny! When's the next one?

Champion Horse & Rider - Sunday 12th June
The Club Champion Horse and Rider competition attracted fifteen entries and the competition was very keen. The beautifully turned-out horses were put through their paces in four different sections of horsemanship. The sun shone at the start of the day but turned to cold, wet drizzle as the day progressed. Hot home-made soup was served to keep competitors and helpers warm and in good spirits. The first section was In-hand, judged on presentation and manners. Part two was a riding test to assess riding skills and suppleness and schooling of the horse. Part three was roads and tracks to determine the correct speed and paces whilst out for a hack. Part four was a handy horse course with jumps included to test the calmness of horse and rider over unusual obstacles. Despite the rain the members agreed it was a fun and enjoyable day. The guest judge was Janet McCrorie. The overall winner was Annette Modena riding Barclay.

Picnic Ride - Saturday 28th May
We all had a fab ride through Rotcher Woods, Booth Banks and Upper Slawit and were lucky that it kept dry after torrential rain earlier in the morning threatening to dampen our spirits. As it was our spirits were kept very high with Sharon's homemade brews! In celebration of Sharon's birthday she very kindly provided the picnic. Thank you, Sharon! Thanks also to Heather who met us with the grub so that Sharon could lead the ride.

Bitting Talk - Thursday 26th May
Jodie's first event as a Committee member was a huge success so a big thank you. We all learnt a lot from Heather Hyde's talk and lots of us are now saving up for a Neue Schule bit. We had some generous raffle prizes – not least from Equiflair in Outlane, stockists of Neue Schule. Natalie will be happy to discuss your bitting needs and has set up a rental service so you can try before you buy. You pay for the bit up front and then get refunded less the rental if you decide not to keep it. We also had a bit donated by Heather Hyde and a free dental service (for your horse not yourself!) by Neil Foster, "The Art of Equine Dentistry", plus a bunch of goodies from Annette. The raffle raised £112 for our charities and the tickets raised £150. Carol at the club then came up trumps with an excellent home made pie and peas at a knockdown price.
Neil Foster, who was on hand to give dental advice (complete with skull!!!) is based in Meltham and can be contacted on 07850 305758 or neil@equinemouth.co.uk.

Family Fun Show - Sunday 15th May
The Club held the popular Family Fun Show at Bolster Moor by kind permission of farmer Chris Haigh. The weather was cool and breezy with a few showers but the tough members with their beloved ponies and friends enjoyed the day! There were plenty of happy faces and rosettes were won by all!
There was something to suit every one and classes ranged from fancy dress, bonny pony, handsome horse to jumping - including beginners jumping, run and jump, acculmulator and pairs. A popular class was a 'le trec' style handy-horse/pony course where riders had to negotiate unusual obstacles and were given marks for each one.
As you can see from the photos the riders had a most enjoyable day.

Easter Bonnet Ride - Sunday 24th April
The Easter Bonnet had a great turn out this year and it didn't rain either; so it was as close to perfect as we could get really! Beautifully turned out ponies and riders wearing fantastic bonnets toured around Scape and Nettleton Hill. Bystanders stopped what they were doing to smile and chat with us, as they admired the array of Easter bonnet creations that our members had worked hard to make. The ponies all stood beautifully as the club's friend Helen Bousfield, and her extremely helpful parents, judged which bonnets were the most impressive! Results as follows: 1st Molly Arthur riding Treacle, 2nd Sharon Holmes riding Sasha, 3rd Daniel Fielder riding Freddie, 4th Reuben Fielder riding Rosie. Everyone had a brilliant day, thank you to Gina for organising it for us, and thanks to Helen and her Mum and Dad, for the judging, and not forgetting the staff from the Pennine Manor... thanks! We won't forget this year's Easter Bonnet Ride!

Annual General Meeting - Tuesday 1st March
This year's AGM went well. Pat had another AGM that night and as she was going to be late Allison stepped in as chairperson for the first part of the meeting, thanks Allison! The charity cheque was given to the Dialwood Carriage Driving representative, and was received with much gratitude and thanks. She  showed us a slide show presentation of the work that they do, the horses and some of their clients. A very worthy cause! The representative from the Huntingdon's Assosiation was unable to attend, so Nicola will forward them their cheque. Thank you Nicola!

The Superhorse Championship Awards were presented to:
1st Annette Modena (Barclay) with 32 points!
2nd Maz Bradley (Blue Denim) 23 points
3rd Katie Turner (Doodles) 21 points
3rd Daisy Green (Nutmeg) 21 points
4th Sharon Holmes (Mr. Murdoch) 19 points
4th Amber Robertshaw (Harry) 19 points
5th Evie Parks (Tommy) 16 points
5th Jenny Turner (Whisper) 16 points
6th Alice Watson (Vicky) 13 points

Alice Watson won this year's Most Improved Rider and Alice Redman was voted our Most Committed Member, well done to both of you!

The charities we nominated for the club to support this year are Holly Bank Trust and the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre (Lancashire).
The committee was agreed for 2011-2012. Sadly Jane has stepped down due to other commitments, we'll miss her on the committee but Jane will still be around at our events and club meetings, so will still be an active club member. Jane left a space on the committee which needed to be filled, and I'm very pleased to say that Jodie Morris was voted onto the committee at the AGM. A fine young rider and an active club member for a good number of years, having been part of the club from riding on a lead rein, progressing to riding ponies and now moving up to horses Jodie has experience of how the club and events work, and what our young riders want from the club. Congratulations Jodie, bring all your ideas to the next meeting!
We ended the evening with supper (of course!), and a selection of fun games and mini quizzes organised by the committee. A great night all round really! Thanks to our friends at the Rose and Crown for putting up with us again, and for providing the lovely refreshments! Throughout the evening a DVD of club events was running, beautiful shots of horses, past and present and members too. A wonderful DVD Maz, thank you!

Table Top Sale and Tack Auction - Saturday 26th February
This was a very busy event! Horsey folk from all over Huddersfield turned up with their wares to sell and their cash to spend, seeking a bargain and having a good old mingle and chat. All extremely pleasant. Things did get a little excitable when Sarah and Sharon began the auctioning. That really couldn't be helped though; a spending frenzy began and as you all know, the 'Pole Moorers' love a challenge and each and every one of us wanted to secure the winning bid! Not quite sure why we did that... after all, did I really need that hamster cage!!!!
Things settled down to a quiet 'roar' and it was time to have the quiz. Again 'Quizmaster Sarah' devised a spectacular set of questions that stretched our grey matter as far as possible, (as far as the bar and back at least!) Maz's team won by a whisker, well done!
The staff at the Con Club were great and sorted out a lovely supper for us, service at the bar was fast and cheerful. Thank you very much for helping us make this a fab night for the club! Not forgetting to thank Sarah, Sharon, Carol and Nicola, and all the other folk who helped by collecting lots for the auction, setting up tables, organising the room/tickets/etc. We couldn't have done it without you!
