Welcome to Our Club!
The club was founded on 10th March 2003 and is a non-profit making organization which promotes the interests of horse owners and riders in the Pole Moor area. PMRC is a non-affiliated club.
Since the club began we have held a variety of events ranging from our very successful first annual show (held at Carr House Farm, Scammonden), children's events, social rides, lectures, treasure hunts and social events such as a fun swim and a trip to the dogs.
Pole Moor Riding Club aims to:
- Bring together local horsey people, enabling us to help each other with any problems and provide a friendly environment, as well as giving us more power in the on-going battle for bridleway access.
- Provide basic training in horse care and road safety.
- Encourage all horsey people to get the best from their horses by holding a wide variety of events.
The club holds a meeting at 8pm on the first Tuesday of each month at The Rose & Crown, Cop Hill, Slaithwaite. Everyone is welcome to attend. You can also contact us by
email.
Supported Charities
The club also supports various charities through fundraising events. The club is currently supporting:
Hollybank Trust
Hollybank is a charity with a national reputation for excellence. They are a unique and effective organisation, working with some of society's most vulnerable members - children and adults with complex physical disabilities. These are often coupled with severe learning difficulties.
They specialise in caring for and developing these individuals. Their commitment to lifetime care means that they're simply not a school. But neither are they merely a home - they are a combination of the two, providing a range of excellent services under one roof. They recognise the value of working together with individuals, families and carers for the benefit of everyone involved. They also grasp the importance of issues like supported housing, self-care, self-advocacy and - through pioneering technology - giving people the opportunity to do things for themselves. Their progress has been impressive. They have year-round registered children's homes, independence housing for young adults on site and four permanent homes in our local communities.
They invite you to explore their web site to discover for yourself what makes Hollybank Trust, and the people they care for, so special.
The Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre
Each year thousands of horses leave racing, some because they reach the natural end of their career, others through injury, old age or lack of ability. The Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre is the original charity dedicated to the welfare, re-training and re-homing of ex-racehorses.
The Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre provides a secure, safe future for ex-racehorses. Some of these horses come to the Centre straight from training and others from post racing private homes. Those from private homes have often been purchased cheaply by well meaning but inexperienced individuals who are unable to handle or care for the horse.
The Centre offers owners and trainers peace of mind that horses coming straight from racing are well looked after. Once a horse has been sold on it is very difficult to keep track of it. Any horse that comes to the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre remains our property for the rest of its lifetime. It will always be visited regularly and monitored by our volunteer field officers and if there is a problem it will return to the Centre.
To find out more about loaning a Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre horse, please look at the 'Our Horses and Loan Scheme' pages on their website. They are always looking for experienced, confident riders who can offer a loan home to an ex-racehorse giving them a new life and purpose.
The Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre is dedicated to the well-being of all ex-racehorses and is here to help with any problems you might be having with your thoroughbred regardless of whether is it a TRC horse or not. Their trained staff can give advice by telephone and also offer schooling and re-training clinics to address specific issues plus retirement and convalescence liveries.
There is always an urgent list of horses needing their help and they need to raise close to £1500 per DAY to enable them to continue their work.
